According to the latest report from the British Association of Conference Destinations the average size of a conference is 53 delegates, a figure which has risen year-on-year. The rise in the average number of delegates means many event organisers may have trouble determining the scale of an event. Medical and Environmental Conferences Bring Over £2.5 Million New Economic Benefit To Aberdeen

New figures and statistics released for 2007 by the Aberdeen Convention Bureau show that conference trends in Aberdeen this year will bring in excess of £2.5 million new economic benefit to the area. The majority of conferences taking place in the north east this year will focus on medical and environmental issues with 20% of all booked conferences being medical related and a further 20% environmental. Events which have been confirmed to take place in Aberdeen in 2007 include the Bone Research Society, Occupation UK – Health Through Occupation, OCEANS 2007 and the British Toxicology Society. It is estimated that over 1,000 delegates will attend the medical and environmental conferences.

More than £20,000 funding secured by Aberdeen Convention Bureau

Society for New Testament Studies Chose Aberdeen fo Annual Conference

The 61st annual conference of the Society for New Testament Studies (SNTS), the academic society dedicated to the study of the New Testament, was held in Aberdeen last month, from 25-29 July 2006, at the University of Aberdeen. Carbon 2006 Comes to Aberdeen

The Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen is the venue for Carbon 2006, the International Carbon Conference, between the 16 and 21 July. Over 450 delegates are registered to attend the six day event, which is being held at RGU’s Schoolhill campus and hosted by The British Carbon Group (BCG). It is expected that the conference will bring around £1 million to the local economy. more info >>

Over 70,000 meals likely to be served to business tourists during 2006

Aberdeen Convention Bureau today Wednesday 25 April 2006 announce that hungry conference delegates and event attendees are likely to consume over 70,000 meals whilst in Aberdeen City and Shire. 20 events and conferences are to be held in Aberdeen City and Shire during the course of 2006. The events, which encompass topics as diverse as housing, nutrition, New Testament studies and seabirds are expected to attract over 4,700 visitors to the region. West End Hotel invests £90,000 to improve accessibility

£90,000 has been invested in the four star Atholl Hotel, which is located in the West End of Aberdeen, in order to improve accessibility. Research Fellow in Ambassadorial Role

A Senior Research Fellow at the University of Aberdeen for over ten years, Iain Ogden works in the Department of Medical Microbiology where he is the head of the Applied Food Microbiology Group.? Iain specialises in the epidemiology of zoonotic pathogens (such as E. coli O157 and Campylobacter) and rapid methods to both identify and eradicate them from food and food processing areas. Iain is also a member of the Aberdeen Convention Bureau Ambassador Programme.
